Why I'm Taking You to Mallorca for a Yoga Retreat

Mallorca 2011

Mallorca is very special to me. I’ve been asking myself why, as I sit here on another beautiful island—Ithaca—on a summer holiday with my family.

  1. The sun, the air, the Mediterranean sea, the sound of wind through the trees… all remind me of my homeland—if peace were there. Something about an island, surrounded and held by water, feels protective. Life slows down. I can rest here. I want to share these flavors of home‑not‑home, this deep and quiet peace, with you.

  2. “An island is a refuge for the soul, a place to reconnect with nature and rediscover ourselves.” — Unknown
Mallorca, Sardinia, Ithaca… my favorite places, I’m discovering, are all islands. Each brings me a sense of peace I can’t quite name, but long to share with you—in practice, in stillness, in presence.

  3. When Doron was working on his PhD in Art History and we had our little Rohan—and very little money—his research fellowships to Mallorca gave me a feeling of abundance. You didn’t need a fancy place to stay. You didn’t need much to drink good wine, sit in the sun, and be surrounded by beauty. It was there for everyone to soak in, bathe in, walk through. I’d love to spend time in that spirit—here—with you.

After October 7th, 2023, I lost all desire to host a retreat. There was—and still is—so much pain to carry. I couldn’t imagine expanding enough to hold space for six days and truly enjoy it. But then my good friend moved to Mallorca. When I visited her this past April, I felt flooded with joy and a giddy desire to share it with my students.

Yoga has always been my therapy. A way to listen, to re‑arrange what’s tangled inside. Untying inner knots. So yes, I want us to hike, rest, swim, and enjoy the spa and pool. To eat well, read, breathe, and deepen our practice. But more than that—this is an invitation to be in a place that feels healing.

Here, surrounded by mountains and water, we can simply be.
Okay to rest.
Okay to feel joy. Okay to feel sad.
Okay to move and expand in the company of like‑minded people.

From May 13–18, 2026, I’ll be hosting a retreat at Hotel Maristel in the Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca. Two long practices a day, and the rest of the hours—yours to rest or explore.
