About Me

In 2000, while still dancing in a professional contemporary dance company, I started taking countless yoga classes in various styles including Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Kripalu yoga, which I was certified to teach in 2003. However the yoga I was searching for, the balanced combination of mindful attention, intention and heart, I found only when I met my teacher Noga Barkai, in Jerusalem later that same year.

Being introduced to Vijnana yoga was a meaningful moment in my life. Devoted to being on the mat, I have been teaching ever since.

Through many moves (Israel, Maryland, France, California, Florida, Massachusetts, now - Denmark), cultural and linguistic adaptations, two pregnancies, and two degrees. In 2005 I completed one year of advanced teacher training with Orit Sen-Gupta, founder of Vijnana yoga, and in 2008 I got an additional certification in prenatal yoga. Finally, in the summer of 2018 in Immenstadt Germany, I received my 800-hour Advanced Vijnana teacher certification from Orit Sen-Gupta, with much joy. Writing my thesis for this training where I presented my years of research and the method I developed in working with pelvic floor disorders, is what inspired me to write a book, a long and intense labor of love.

Weaved in my career in dance and yoga, was also my desire to study and learn. I wrote my final paper for my B.A. in Humanities and Social Sciences (Israeli Open University, 2008) with baby Rohan on my shoulder typing with the free hand, and 6 years later, same arm position this time with baby Orion, I wrote my thesis for my M.A. (Department of Theology in Aarhus University, Denmark). During the first year of the pandemic in July of 2020 our family relocated from Tallahassee to Copenhagen where I am closer to my sisters and mother. Here I continue teaching yoga in English - in person and online.

PRACTICING FROM INSIDE

"Beyond what is seen, something subtle exists. Becoming sensitive to the subtle is the heart of all yoga practice."

— ORIT SEN- GUPTA, VAYU'S GATE

Vijnana Yoga is founded by Orit Sen-Gupta, a master teacher for over 30 years, esteemed author and student of Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois and Dona Holleman whom she practiced alongside for years. Vijnana Yoga combines the practice of meditation, pranayama (breathing techniques), asana (postures) and the study of scripture.

The word Vijnana includes in its translation understanding, knowledge, skill, art and science and the emphasis in this practice is on internal sense of connectedness. Accenting both flow and precision we follow 7 vital principles: relaxing the body, quieting the mind, focusing through intent, rooting, connecting, awareness of breath, and expansion.
