WHAT IT IS

Inspired by yoga, pilates, Paula method and other modalities such as Feldenkrais and traditional physical therapy, my approach is at the end of the day a blend of “what works”. Working with hundreds of people closely and conducting years of research guided me in creating a practice that is on the one hand very simple and accessible to all, but on the other hand, requires a real commitment from the student to experience their body as it is now (and being so vulnerable is hard!).

WHY

Healthy pelvic floor muscles are required to support our inner organs by being strong and contractile, as well as being able to fully open, release and relax. Far too often women tend to either accept muscle weakness as a natural outcome of having given birth or aging, or, on the other end, far too often women tend to brace the pelvis, suffering from hypertension and pain. Men too, may suffer pelvic floor disorders. Prostate cancer, over tightness or injuries may lead to the need for rehabilitation.

MY APPROACH

The gentle yet precise way we work with the body allows for a safe and productive experience, where the core idea is that only the person itself can find the connections within them that lead to healing. My approach considers the body as a whole but also acknowledges emotions that may surface and patterns of holding.

We focus on alignment, strength, flexibility, deep stabilization and body awareness. We emphasize understanding the relationship between the breath and pelvic function which is crucial in the process of healing pelvic floor disorders. And we learn to feel the pelvic floor and experience our own range of muscle tone understanding when to accentuate and when to let go so that the work we do is accurate to our needs.

A PERSONAL NOTE

For many years I have dedicated much of my work to offering women what I wished was offered to me, especially after giving birth. One out of every five American women suffer from some form of pelvic floor dysfunction at some point in their lives, however it is rarely spoken of and too often left untreated. Feelings of embarrassment, shame and guilt are so often attached to dealing with pelvic floor disorders, and tremendously increase the suffering. Sharing my knowledge, working with women and men closely, seeing their relief as things begin to click into place and small realizations are made, was an unexpected reward I found in this work. Finding this new awareness in my own body and then witnessing how meaningful and healing this process is for so many others, had left me feeling that indeed.... this is a calling.
